Councillors, shops, businesses and members of the public have ensured that Santa is laden down with gifts when he arrives in Inkersall this Saturday (December 12), ahead of his big Christmas Eve rush.

The bearded present bearer will be the star guest at an outdoor Winter Wondersall at St Columba’s Church.

Parish councillor Dean Rhodes said: “I wanted to do something for the children as they have missed out on so much this year and this wouldn’t be possible without the donations of local people. What a great community we have.”

Santa will hand out gifts to the 140 children who snapped up all the tickets within days of them becoming available.

His sackload of presents has been made possible thanks to donations from the following: Bolsover Rotary Club, Spa Revive hot tubs, Morrison’s community champions, Dade stores in Inkersall, Spar shop in Inkersall, Double Top in Inkersall, Derbyshire community hub, Middlecroft community group in Staveley, Feet First Flooring, Premier shop at Middlecroft and members of the community.

Councillor Cheryl Jackson, of Inkersall Parish Council, said: “Thank you for the generous response that we have had and also a big thank you to Father Adrian at the church for letting us use his premises.”

Paul Mann, leader of Staveley Town Council, added: “It’s nice how all local people and businesses have come together to help and how good and strong community spirit is, more so at times like we are in now.”

*The health crisis has forced the cancellation of many Santa visits this year, but you can still see the festive favourite at these places:

Santa will be travelling on his sleigh around Dronfield, touring Snape Hill on December 15, Dronfield Woodhouse on December 17, Gosforth Valley on December 18, Holmesdale estate and Coal Aston on December 21 and Hilltop Dronfield on December 22. Dronfield Rotary Club will raise money for charities via online donations.

Matlock Farm Park welcomes Santa and his wife on December 12, 13, 19, 20, 21 and 23. Keeping things socially distanced, Mrs Claus will provide sweet treats and Christmas letters for children to send to the North Pole.
