Chesterfield’s iconic Winding Wheel Theatre to close as Covid-19 vaccination site

The Chesterfield and Dronfield Primary Care Network (PCN) has delivered 185,000 vaccines over the past eight months across its two sites, the Winding Wheel and Stubley Medical Centre.

But the operation at the Grade II-listed Winding Wheel Theatre will cease on Sunday, August 15, as Phase 2 of the Covid-19 vaccination programme draws to an end.

The fight against coronanvirus will then continue in September, with Phase 3 of the programme which will be delivered from the ‘Peter McCarthy’ suite at Walton Hospital.

Madeleine Wood, PCN manager at Chesterfield and Dronfield PCN, said: “We are pleased to announce that the PCN will be delivering Phase 3 of the vaccination programme on behalf of our GP practices within our PCN. These will be delivered from Walton Hospital and Stubley Medical Centre.

"We are currently in the final planning stages for the delivery of Phase 3 and will share important information and updates as soon as we can.

"All patients who are eligible for their booster vaccine in Phase 3 will be invited to book an appointment in due course. Please do not contact your GP for further information.

"The PCN would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff and volunteers who have helped in the successful delivery of Phase 1 and 2 of the vaccination programme, and we look forward to delivering Phase 3 to our patients."

Chesterfield and Dronfield PCN said it is ‘extremely grateful’ to those who applied and trained for paid and voluntary roles to support the delivery of the vaccination programme at the Winding Wheel.

Among the last few patients to receive their Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at the site was 18-year-old Daisy Hinde who was very grateful to finally receive her vaccine.

The roll-out of the vaccination programme has been delivered through an Integration Care Partnership with Chesterfield and Dronfield PCN, the local authority and Derbyshire Community Health Care Services.
