Maria Nicholson, 52, says her 13-year-old Jack Russell Milo was zipped up inside the doggie pushchair when staff at The Pillar of Rock in Bolsover told her and a friend that no dogs are allowed.

She says she moved the pushchair to a car park about two-feet away from tables outside the Castle Street venue but staff continued to refuse to serve them.

Bosses at the Wetherspoon pub say they do not allow dogs on the premises even in external areas and this was on a sign clearly at the front of the venue.

Maria said that since lockdown Milo has suffered with anxiety and ‘can’t be left alone as he’s used to being with me all the time’.

She added: "I asked all the other people that were sat outside if anyone had a problem with him being there and they all said no, to which the manager said he was refusing to serve us at all now. And we had to leave.”

Maria said: “The pub should be happy for the trade. We left and went to McDonald’s at Duckmanton and were made very welcome, they even bought us water out for the dog.”

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said a staff member and a manager both explained that dogs were not allowed and showed her the sign at the front of the pub ‘which clearly states that dogs are not allowed’.

"She explained that her dog had anxiety and could not be left unattended,” the spokesperson added.

"She then proceeded to push the dog in its pushchair to the middle of the car park and said the dog was no longer on our property.

"It was explained to the lady that she could not just leave her dog in the middle of the car park as it was not safe for the dog, she kept saying it was disgusting that we didn’t allow dogs and would not be dining without her dog and was asked to leave.”
