Visitors are also required to wear a face covering inside the building unless exempt.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “The team have worked really hard behind the scenes to ensure that everything is safe for customers to return.

"The centre provides a number of key services including selling car parking scratch cards and coach tickets but is also a great source of information on attractions and places to visit for anyone planning their staycation in Derbyshire.”

Some of the leaflets and posters have been removed but staff will be able to provide up to date information about places to visit, local bus and train times and performances at Chesterfield theatres. The gift shop inside the centre will also reopen but browsing time will be limited.

The Visitor Information Centre will be open from 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Meanwhile, after successfully reopening gyms, swimming pools and fitness classes, Chesterfield Borough Council is planning to reopen squash courts and 3G pitches to the public on September 1.

Booking in advance will be required to use the courts and contract bookings who used the 3G pitches prior to lockdown are being invited back.

There are several other guidelines in place, such as needing to bring your own equipment and limits on the number of people who you can play with.
