The Devonshire Arms, on Mansfield Road, Hasland, will be transformed with new lighting, a free standing pergola, new and refurbished furniture, repairs to existing fences and planters – once it reopens following the coronavirus lockdown.

It has been given permission to make the changes by planning chiefs at Chesterfield Borough Council.

Planning officers say in documents on the council website: “The proposed pergola is situated so as to minimise impact on the public highway and the repairing of the planters and fences are not indicated to increase the height of such.

“The proposed works are considered appropriate for the use of the application site and are considered to be a positive contribution to the site frontage.”

Work has to begin within three years.
