Robyn Payne, 22, from Chesterfield, who has worked at Kids Planet North Wingfield for two years, donated her long plait to the Little Princess Trust.

Robyn had her long locks cut off live on Facebook as part of the Kids Planet ‘Summer Stampede’ campaign, which also raised vital funds for Chester Zoo.

The zoo has faced significant losses during the global pandemic and because of drastic restrictions on visitor numbers, the struggle is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Robyn said: “I love visiting Chester Zoo with my family, and I thought cutting off my hair was the perfect fundraiser to help us with our ‘Summer Stampede’ campaign.

"I adore animals and hair grows back eventually so why not support two charities at the same time?

"I will be donating my hair to the Little Princess Trust so they can continue making wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

"Also, I have raised more than £150 for Chester Zoo, which is brilliant.

"Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me over these last few weeks.”

Nursery manager at Kids Planet North Wingfield, Sophie Hoyland, said: “We’ve been hosting various fundraising activities here at North Wingfield and when Robyn approached me to say she’d love to get more involved I couldn’t wait to hear what she’d got planned.

"We’ve all been supporting Robyn across social media and telling all the parents all about it.”
