Sean Goldsmith spent 12 years on the Peak FM breakfast show with Becky Measures before leaving in 2014.

Since then he’s DJ-ed on a number of different stations, including Viking FM and Greatest Hits Radio before returning to Chesterfield and working with Virgin Radio - alongside the likes of Chris Evans and Graham Norton – all from his home studio under the stairs.

Sean said: “When I left Greatest Hits Radio in December, I was asked to join the Virgin Radio family but had to work from home and the only room in the house free was under the stairs.

"With help from my friend David, he built some woodwork and somehow managed to make a very small radio studio in the place we used to keep the coats and shoes. I use the world studio loosely as it's basically a standard PC and a microphone!

“It's not easy working under the stairs as you can hear anyone walking down the stairs, the washing machine, knocks on the door, kids being called for tea but that's the modern world we live in. It's all quite normal in 2021.

"I’ve been called Harry Potter a few times!”

“It's a sign of the times going from working in a multimillion-pound studio complex in Manchester to under the stairs in the Bolsover district. Some people don't believe me when I tell them where I work from, and my wife Lian isn't always happy when I ask her to turn the TV down while I'm on air.

"If someone had said this time next year I'd be working from home under the stairs on the same station as Chris Evans and Graham Norton I'd have laughed out loud!”

Sean has also presented for many other stations from home this year, including Chesterfield Radio, Care Radio and Charitable Radio.

You can hear his local shows on North Derbyshire Radio – a new online station for the area – 8-10am Monday to Friday.

While you can catch his national shows on Virgin Radio Chilled 6-10pm Monday to Friday and Virgin Radio Anthems 6-10pm Saturday.

You can listen on DAB, smart speaker, app or virginradio.co.uk.
