Chesterfield care home worker who makes residents smile up for prestigious award

A Chesterfield care home activities organiser described as a ‘breath of fresh air’ has been nominated for one of the care sector’s most prestigious awards.

Barbie Riley, from Chatsworth Lodge in Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, has been shortlisted in the activity organiser category of The Great British Care Awards East Midlands region.

The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Barbie has been a part of Chatsworth Lodge since November 2019.

Home manager Michelle Rose nominated her for the prestigious award.

She said: “I believe that Barbie deserves to be recognised for the smiles she has brought to each and every one of the residents at Chatsworth Lodge and we thank her for that.

"She displayed such enthusiasm from the get-go and breezed into the home like a breath of fresh air.

"Barbie works very hard to ensure the residents are having an amazing adventure in their daily lives and tailors the activities to suit everyone.

"She works really hard to bring fresh ideas into the home and most of all to make our residents smile.

“Barbie is currently arranging an awards day to honour the fire service, district nurse team, the ambulance service, staff and families that have been heavily involved in the home.”

The winners will be announced at the 2020 regional finals which, due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, on April 29, 2021.
