Chesterfield Borough Council issues statement about Travellers illegally camped at Staveley park

Chesterfield Borough Council is to serve an eviction notice on Travellers who have illegally set up camp at a park in Staveley.

The group arrived at the King George V Park on Inkersall Road at the end of last week.

A council spokesperson told the Derbyshire Times on Monday: “We are aware that a group of Travellers have moved on to land in King George V Park in Staveley.

“Our team will be serving the Travellers with a legal eviction notice and we are prepared to take further action as required.”

A Staveley Councillor told the Derbyshire Times there were ‘signs of forced entry’ to the park.

Meanwhile, residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns about the illegal encampment.

The news comes after Travellers were evicted from the playing fields at Tupton last Thursday.

There were also reports about Travellers at Thistle Park in Brimington last Thursday night.
