Announcing the changes on its website, a Stagecoach spokesperson said: “We'll still be running eight out of 10 of all our journeys so there will still be plenty of seats available for people that need to travel.

"The changes include the feedback we received from you over the course of last year. All our routes will continue to run, just a little less often in some cases.

"To keep you safe, we've got extra cleaning measures in place especially in places which are touched the most.”

Passengers are also urged to use contactless to pay for travel or buy tickets in advance online or on mobile where possible and to maintain social distancing onboard by sitting in a zigzag pattern on the bus.

Under lockdown rules in England people can continue using the public transport network if they need to travel for an exempt reason.

However, use of public transport fell by 83 per cent during the first national lockdown in the spring of 2020 and so far in 2021 is 64 per cent lower than usual.
