Two dogs and two cats are currently being cared for by volunteers at Chesterfield RSPCA centre.

Charlie is a handsome male Lhasa Apso who is six years old and has taken some time to settle in the kennels and trust the staff. Stephanie Billen, the centre’s supporter engagement officer, said: “He is slowly but surely coming around and showing us his wonderful little personality."

Poppy the Jack Russell terrier has diabetes and requires a special diet. The 11-year-old is a happy little dog who loves being with people. Stephanie said: “She is looking for someone who is willing to take on the responsibility for her condition but she will return your kindness with lots and lots of love.”

Despite her pretty face, domestic short haired cat Tabitha has had very little interest even though the 13-year-old is extremely friendly. Stephanie commented: “Maybe it is her age that puts people off but with cats age is just a number and can not be defined by their age. Tabitha is desperate to share her love with a new owner.”

On first impressions, two-year old short-haired puss Serena can be slightly aloof. Stephanie said: “It takes her a little time to warm to people but when she does she loves lots of fuss and attention however she is not shy to let you know when she has had enough. A quiet home would best suit her so she can adjust in her own time.”
