‘Bruised and battered’ Peak District climber rescued after getting knee stuck

Mountain Rescue teams came to the rescue of a ‘bruised and battered’ Peak District climber trapped by the knee following a ‘prolonged, intimate struggle’.

Edale Mountain Rescue team were called by Derbyshire Police at 6.36pm on Saturday after a climber got stuck two thirds up a route on Millstone Edge. The climber was trapped for around 30 minutes and their friends had unsuccessfully tried to use cooking oil and pulley systems to free them.

The climber was eventually freed using a rope system of static ropes.

A spokesperson for Edale Mountain Rescue team said: “To their full credit, after their prolonged ordeal being more intimate than they would like with gritstone, the bruised and battered climber walked back to Surprise View Car park under their own steam.”

The climber was also assessed by a paramedic from Edale Mountain Rescue. Derbyshire Cave Rescue were called to help with the operation but were not required.
