The site, on land to the rear of Mayfields at Hady Lane, Hady, is one identified by Chesterfield Borough Council for a permanent Gypsy and Traveller pitch as part of its Local Plan last year.

It is within the boundary of a former quarry, and more recently a landfill site, which was landscaped in the 1990s.

It is hoped the site will mean Travellers do not set up camp as here at Sainsbury's in Chesterfield. It is hoped the site will mean Travellers do not set up camp as here at Sainsbury's in Chesterfield.

The site is described as ‘low risk’ and planning permission was granted in December 2019 for three Traveller pitches.

Developers have now submitted an environmental audit to the council to clear another hurdle in the planning process.

It will be decided upon by council planners over the next few months.

Across Chesterfield borough in 2018, more than £10,000 of taxpayers' cash was spent on dealing with illegal Gypsy and Traveller camps.
