These rarely seen youthful photos show some of the county’s biggest names before they were famous – or in the days when they were just about to make their breakthrough.
Derbyshire has a wealth of talent from its vibrant towns and beautiful villages. Whether it be stage, TV or the music industry, years of hard work and determination certainly paid off for these celebs.
9. Paul Burrell
Princess Diana's former Butler Paul Burrell is pictured at Grassmoor Carnival with his two neices in 1998. Burrell was born and raised in Grassmoor and entered Royal Service at age 18 as a Buckingham Palace footman. In 1987, Burrell joined the household of Charles and Diana at Highgrove House acting as butler to the princess until her death in August 1997. Since her death Burrell has been featured in the media and in 2004, Burrell entered the fourth series of the ITV reality television show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! Photo: Dean Atkins
10. William Roache
William Roache grew up in Ilkeston. After leaving the military, he turned to acting and appeared in various stage productions before joining Coronation Street at the beginning of the programme in 1960. Although Roache was already famous when this photo was taken, this was at the beginning of his long career which has seen him named the world's longest-serving TV soap cast member. 11. Tom Chambers
Tom Chambers is pictured here in 2008. The Holby City, Casualty and Waterloo Road actor was already famous and went on to become the the winner of series 6 of Strictly Come Dancing. 12. Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire is actually from just over the border in Mosborough but he attended St Mary's Roman Catholic High School in Chesterfield. His former teacher Sue Cain said: “He was a remarkable pupil who always came in and worked very hard. He was never in any trouble and he had such a good attitude." Pictured here with classmates, his former PE teacher at St Mary’s, Martin McKee, said the English professional footballer not only excelled at football, but was also a good middle distance runner and played table tennis and rugby.
