During the summer, vandals also caused around £950 worth of damage to the new play area at Monkey Park off Chester Street.

Councillor Ron Mihaly, who represents Boythorpe and Brampton south on Derbyshire County Council, called the vandalism ‘heartbreaking’.

He said: “It's sad to see after all the hard work put in by the friends groups and other volunteers.

“I would urge any member of the public who has information, no matter how insignificant they think it is, to contact the police.

“We must never let these faceless people beat us.”
