While there is a lot to be proud of in Chesterfield, no town is perfect and residents have been coming up with their ideas to help improve the area in 2022.
We received a wide range of responses, from indoor ice rinks to reduced rents.

5. Indoor ice rink
Sasha R Ayres said: “Opening restaurants with outdoor seating, like a COSMO or Mr Basrai’s like the one in Blackpool. Putting an indoor ice rink somewhere, keeps people fit and healthy and creates jobs, that way we don't have to travel to get to the nearest one and it helps the environment. 6. Town centre changes
Janet Sykes said: “Open shops in town centre to small businesses trying to start out. Make a cafe for the homeless where people like me can leave money and they have somewhere warm in winter to sit during the day. 7. Retaining Chesterfield’s heritage
Jill Hancock said: “Retain and maintain the beautiful old buildings instead of knocking them down, cheaper parking, more actual shops not just coffee and Greggs, and bring back the proper market. The problem is that people shop online, which isn't town's fault. Make little market square more of a nightlife destination, with open air bars and entertainment.” Photo: Brian Eyre
8. New pathways
Eughan Pavey said: “Please, a proper footpath link and disabled ramp from Ravenside through to The Range, and fully fence in Queen’s Park on the north side. Close it at darkness, not leaving the gates open all evening, so the cricket pavilion and cycle track isn't covered in broken glass when the morning comes.” Photo: Brian Eyre
