Peak Resort offers more development for Chesterfield

The announcement of the £400m Peak Resort development close to Chesterfield is not the only significant development currently underway in the Chesterfield area.

The 16 hectare £340m Waterside development, which is being led by Chesterfield-based company Bolsterstone Group working in partnership with Arnold Laver Group and Chesterfield Borough Council, was recently ranked at number 47 in the top 100 list of the UK’s largest regeneration projects.

Chesterfield Waterside is a 10-year development project located on the edge of the town centre adjacent to the railway station and alongside the A61 Corridor Regeneration area, either side of the River Rother and Chesterfield Canal.

At the heart of the project is the development of the new canal basin and the restoration and building of a navigable waterway through the site.

Speaking last year, Councillor John Burrows, vice chair of Destination Chesterfield, said: “We are currently seeing significant investment in housing. Chesterfield is on the up and we have made significant investment to attract people to the borough.

“The town offers good transport links and a friendly, safe environment which is popular with families, many of which choose to locate here thanks to our variety and wealth of affordable housing, good schools and opportunity.”

Work on the Peak Resort, in Unstone, is set to start between March and April.

The plan has been welcomed by both Chesterfield Borough Council and Destination Chesterfield.

The integrated all–weather, year round leisure, health, sport and education destination will create 1,300 new jobs and will be formally announced by Prime Minister David Cameron during a visit to America this week.
