The work has seen the whole of the trail widened and the surface improved between Friden car park and Green Lane.

The High Peak Trail is a popular route for cyclists, walkers and horse riders. It is owned and managed by the Peak District National Park Authority between Dowlow and Longcliffe.

The car park at Friden has been refurbished to eliminate potholes and another popular car park at Hurdlow, on the High Peak Trail, was also fully refurbished in September with improvements to the surface and drainage.

Emma Stone, property manager, said: “As well as the improved surface, visitors will really notice where we have widened the trail to around three metres. It’s quite a significant change and will make things much better for users, especially at busy times. It is particularly satisfying to see the money generated by ticket sales being used to fund improvements to our car parks.

“Bikes are available from our cycle hire centres at Parsley Hay and Ashbourne.”
