Thankyou Chesterfield....more than 25,000 poppies created for ambitious World War One tribute
Well done to all the poppy makers of Chesterfield and north Derbyshire who contributed to the poppy cascades planned for this year's event in Chesterfield to mark a centenary since the end of World War One.
The target of 25,000 has been achieved and the World War One Commemoration Working Group are really delighted and bowled over at how people have responded with enthusiasm to the request for poppies.
We predicted it would take eight months from March to November to achieve the target, but the good people of the town have done it in three months, well done.
We are now asking poppy makers to rest your needles, stop making poppies for the cascades and take your poppy donations to the collection points. All poppies donated will be used to form cascades for the town hall and other public buildings around the town, which will be put in place over the weekend of November 3 and November 4 for two weeks until November 18.
Thank you to everyone who contributed in anyway in providing the wool, making and collecting the poppies for the cascades which will demonstrate our towns deep respect for all those who gave so much 100 years ago.
