LETTER: Sad end for water slide

I was walking through Queen's Park at lunchtime on Saturday, March 5, when I saw some heavy plant machinery being used for the demolition of the old sports centre.

This activity seemed worth taking a closer look at, and just as I got to a good viewing area, on the opposite side of Boythorpe Road, the demolition operatives were starting to pull the water slide out with their giant machines.

It was a very unusual sight, entertaining but also a bit saddening remembering the joyful visits my old mates and I spent there as children. It only appeared to take around five minutes for the old water slide’s somewhat rough removal, before being scrapped presumably.
