LETTER: Queen's Park visit was '˜shocking and disgusting'

So on Thursday, September 1, my sister and I decided to take my son of two-and-a-half-years to Queen's Park.

We went late afternoon about 4pm, the sun was still shining so we thought, why not?

We got there and the bouncy slides and the train had packed up for the day, fair enough we were quite late. So we headed down to the small park, my son took his shoes off and went straight in where I followed.
On the main kids walk-through, two guys where replacing a broken decking board, with toys on the sand, and using a sharp saw to cut the wood. The park was full of kids and parents. Very dangerous.

While playing with my son, I noticed the park was very run-down and the seat in the boat was missing (my son particular likes the boat).

After the park we went to the toilets inside the cafe, none of the women’s toilets had loo roll in, one toilet had vomit on the floor and one sink was full of sand. Just disgusting and disappointing.

After, we went for an ice-cream which was a shocking price at £2.80. We went to sit down at the little picnic area but there was nowhere to sit as someone had decided to smear ice-cream and a blue energy drink all over. My little boy was trying to hold his ice-cream and couldn’t sit down.

We decided to head to the band stand, surprise, surprise we couldn’t sit down as it was full of teenagers drinking and smoking.

All around the steps of the band stands where empty cans, cigarette ends, rubbish and rose bushes. Totally unsafe for my little one who just wanted to sit down. I actually felt uncomfortable to be there.

So my son played on the big park for a little while but was greeted by a very muddy area and unsafe surfaces.

I was just totally appalled by my experience, I spent many days at Queen’s Park when I was young and always know it to be lovely and enjoyable.

Unsure what this email will do but thought I’d share it with you.
