LETTER: Post Office plan is '˜ill-concieved and half-baked'
I have just read with disbelief the proposal to close the post office on Top Road, Calow and to re- site it within the shop at The Royal Hospital.
The article states that this “is a short distance” from the current premises and as a sweetener suggests that the longer opening hours would “meet the needs of the community”.
Do those proposing this move have any idea how far the hospital is from the current post office?
Do they have any idea how difficult it is to park in the hospital car parks?
How are older people, possibly on foot, going to get there and back with any sort of ease?
This has got to be one of the most ill-conceived, half -baked plans I have ever come across. Whilst I can appreciate that the current post office is perhaps not viable in its current state, if this is the best alternative they can come up with, perhaps as they no longer wish to offer a service to the community it would be better just to close it down.
I for one would not even entertain the prospect of going into the hospital to use the postal service with all the associated aggravation of parking etc.
