LETTER: Post Office move will not serve residents of Calow

I noticed the proposal to relocate the post office in Calow to the Royal Hospital, but what caught my eye the most was the spin placed on it by Royal Mail that it would serve the needs of Calow.

No it won’t. Whatever the reason for relocation, and I suspect it is a low turnover in its present location whilst adding value to the Royal Hospital, it will not serve the needs of the people of Calow in my view.

Why? Because we will have to pay to park to use it, that is if we can find a parking space in the first place.

Some of the current users are pensioners on foot with limited mobility, they can just manage a stagger to the post office and the local shops. Will they want to take a bus ride to the hospital to get their pensions? The same goes for mothers with children.

Others are passing trade calling in by car, they have the same problem as local car drivers, paying to park and getting a space.

If Royal Mail wants to move the post office get on and do it, just don’t dress it up as a gift to the community because in my view it isn’t.
