New Whittington man just yards from home before horror collision
The incident, which involved a red Volkswagen Bora and a white Ford C-Max, happened on Whittington Road, New Whittington, at 4.57pm on Sunday, October 22.
The driver of the Bora, 30-year-old Daniel Spooner, of Wythburn Road, Chesterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was revealed today that the C-Max driver, 72-year-old Michael Bradshaw, lived on Devonshire Avenue North, New Whittington, just yards from the crash site.
Mr Bradshaw sadly died in Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, shortly after 11pm on Wednesday, October 25, more than three days after the incident.
An inquest into Mr Bradshaw’s death was formally opened at Chesterfield Coroners’ Court this morning, following on from a similar hearing for Mr Spooner which took place last Friday (October 27).
Today’s hearing heard how after being removed from his vehicle by police officers, the retired care worker was airlifted to hospital in Sheffield.
Formal identification was performed by Mr Bradshaw’s family, who were at his bedside throughout.
Adjourning the inquest, assistant coroner Rachel Syed said it was clear that both men’s deaths were ‘inextricably linked’.
In light of this, she adjourned Mr Bradshaw’s inquest to Friday, December 8, the same date on which the inquest into Mr Spooner’s death will also be reviewed.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Derbyshire police on 101 quoting reference 17000457292.
