New Whittington death crash man suffered multiple serious injuries, inquest hears

A man who died in a head on car crash in New Whittington suffered multiple, serious injuries in the collision, an inquest has heard.

Daniel Simon Spooner, 30, of Wythburn Road, Chesterfield, suffered the injuries in a collision which took place at around 5pm on Whittington Road on Sunday (October 22).

As a result of the 'very heavy' impact, Mr Spooner's red Volkswagen Bora also caught fire and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.30pm.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Spooner suffered multiple, serious trauma injuries as a result of the collision.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene.

Formal identification of his body was completed by way of fingerprint analysis.

After opening the inquest into his death at Chesterfield Coroners' Court this afternoon, assistant coroner, Peter Nieto, adjourned the hearing until December 8 to await a police file on the incident.
