New programme promotes health and leadership

An exciting new sports leadership programme been delivered to Darley Churchtown Primary School in a bid to provide more opportunities for children to get involved with sport at lunchtimes.

Supported by Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership – who’s role it is to coordinate school sport, leadership initiatives and competitions across the Dales – the ‘Lunchtime Leaders’ programme’ was delivered across a 10 week period by a trained tutor from Derbyshire Dales District Council.

The sessions helped develop the children’s key skills – such as communication, planning and mentoring – and at the end of the programme they were awarded certificates to recognise their hard work.

Jo Gotheridge, head teacher at Darley Churchtown Primary School, said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for the older children to develop their skills as ‘buddies’ to the younger children.”
