New home bid for Matlock

Derbyshire firm Wildgoose Construction has submitted a planning application for 65 homes in Matlock.

The development is being planned on land that was acquired in 1928 as part of Wildgoose Construction’s quarrying operation at Chesterfield Road.

Derbyshire Dales District Council has a legal requirement to provide new housing and this land became part of the authority’s Local Development Plan following a series of public consultation and Local Plan meetings.

Wildgoose Construction has a long association with Matlock and was building in the town long before the company was founded in 1896 by the great-grandfather of the current Chairman, Jonathan Wildgoose.

The company was originally located in the centre of Matlock before its continued growth saw a move to new offices in 1984 at Milltown in Ashover.

The former home of Wildgoose, in Rutland Street, Matlock, was subsequently redeveloped for new houses.

Mr Wildgoose said the company was highly regarded with construction contracts throughout the UK and specialised in building quality housing.

He said: “These plans are ambitious and we pride ourselves on delivering the best possible homes, we want to develop a ‘destination’ development, one that is of the highest quality for the residents of Matlock looking to move home and to also attract new people to Matlock.

“The proposal is to have a mixture of house types, from affordable cottages to family homes to top of the range executive homes.

“We are working with architects Oulsnam Design, of Bakewell, designing homes built in traditional materials, local stone, oak and glass in a modern style making them light and airy inside with a contemporary link to flow into each other to provide the perfect backdrop for modern living.

“Matlock lies in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales and homes should connect with that ambience. Low density housing, with plenty of green spaces, built in local natural materials to exacting environmental standards will ensure the development is not just great to live in but sits comfortably in its surroundings”.
