NATIONAL LAZY DAY: 5 things that you can't be bothered to do

According to social media, today is National Lazy Day.

To celebrate this momentous day in our lives, here’s a short list of five things that lazy people will understand.

1. Letting the pots pile up

Washing the pots has to be one of the most boring chores. Surely that’s why most people have dishwashers these days, right? But, for those of us who don’t, we are faced with the daily torture of having to clean and put away our dirty pots and pans.

There’s nothing more heartbreaking than having to scrub cement-like Weetabix from a bowl used 12 days before.

So what do we do? Do we face reality and accept that having last month’s frying pan almost touching the ceiling is probably a step too far? No, of course not. We order a takeaway and hope that a friend or family member will visit and take pity on us.

2. The battle of the bins

This will apply to most people who share accommodation. You both know that the bins stink and that they are overflowing. You find one last final gap for your empty box of chocolates but somehow he/she manages to balance a pizza box on top of all the rubbish knowing full well they are going away for the weekend. And then when you do finally bite the bullet and decide enough is enough, the bag splits all over the kitchen. Grrrrrrrrr.

3. Driving to your local shop

Driving to your local shop to avoid the rain is acceptable. But when you can virtually see the bag of sweets you are craving on the shelf in the shop across the road, it’s just not on. You know full well that using your vehicle will actually take longer to get there because of the roadworks but you convince yourself that old Mrs Smith from across the road will come out of her garden for a 45 minute chat.

4. Texting someone in the next room

This one is the outright winner. There you are sat watching TV when you fancy a snack. But instead of getting up and pausing your programme, what do you do? You send a text message or even make a call to someone who is even further away to ask them to bring you the treat. Madness.

5. Avoiding exercise

You understand that exercise is important. And you promise yourself you WILL join the gym next week. But what about those bins that need emptying or those pots that needs washing, now is the time to do them, right?
