Mr Heart Throb contest boosts hospice funds

Scott Timbrell took the title beating off competition from seven other big-hearted, fun-loving fellas, who all helped to raise over £5,300 for Ashgate Hospice.

Scott, age 33, said: “I’m really pleased about being crowned Mr Heart Throb 2014, especially for Ashgate Hospice.

“I’ve had a few friends cared for by the Hospice and I always want to do my best to support the cause.”

“Mr Heart Throb was a massive success and all the contestants loved it. The audience was great and everyone had a fantastic time.

“I hope to be back next year to defend the title.”

The hunky hopefuls competed in four categories including modelling their work clothes, what they would wear on a dinner date, a super hero costume and a show stopping outfit of their choice.

Spectators at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium were also given the opportunity to vote for their favourite contestant through cash and text donations during the event on Thursday, February 13, which was hosted by Peak FM’s Sean Goldsmith.

There was also a prize for the contestant who raised the most amount of money on the night for Ashgate Hospice.

Ashgate is the second largest hospice in the East Midlands with more than 7,000 patient contacts a year.

The independent charity provides specialist care and support to local people with life limiting illnesses and their families across North Derbyshire and the High Peak and Dales.

Alongside inpatient and day unit care, Ashgate provides a range of care and support in people’s own homes allowing them to remain as well as possible for as long as possible.

The hospice receives an NHS grant of £2.1m but has to raise a further £3.8m each year to ensure these vital services can continue.

Ashgate Community Fundraising Manager Alison Ward-Foster said: “A big thanks to all the contestants for taking part. They were all really good sports.

“We would also like to thank everyone who bought tickets and voted for their favourite contestant. It was a fantastic evening, raising much needed funds for Ashgate Hospice and we really hope to bring the event to Derbyshire again next year.”
