Mountain rescue teams were deployed to Kinder Scout to find two walkers - who were actually in a completely different location.

On Saturday evening, April 9, the Kinder Search Plan was activated following a call from the walkers.

The weather on Kinder had deteriorated throughout the day with snow and a severe wind chill.

Kinder, Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were called out.

The Glossop Team which normally covers the Kinder Northern Edges was already deployed on a separate search in the Longdendale area, so Edale moved to the Snake Road and the Buxton Team was to spread across the eastern side of Kinder if required.

Mobile phone communication with the walkers was difficult but eventually their position was locked in by their signal using Sarloc.

However, the missing walkers were not on Kinder Scout at all, but in the Alport River area on Bleaklow.

A section from the Edale Team were deployed along the Alport Valley and climbed to their location.

The two walkers were wet and cold but otherwise uninjured and were led down the valley to the Snake Road and returned to their vehicle parked at the Snake Summit.
