Motorists urged to take extra care during Baslow road works

Drivers are being urged to take extra care during road resurfacing works.

Chippings put down on the A619 Chesterfield Road in Baslow have been causing cars to skid over the last few days.

A spokesman for Derbyshire County Council said: “Drivers should heed the warning signs and travel at no more than 10mph to avoid skidding and throwing up loose chippings.

“We always put up signs warning motorists to take extra care when we dress the surface of one of our roads – and we sweep up carefully afterwards to get rid of any excess chippings.

“It generally takes around 24 hours for the chippings to bed in. We do an initial sweep one or two days after we’ve applied the surface dressing and we do a final sweep after about five days.”
