Missing walkers spark Kinder search
Two missing walkers sparked a search on Kinder Scout involving three Peak District mountain rescue teams.
The couple, from Manchester, had been caught out by the changeable weather conditions and reduced visibility while making their way from Kinder Downfall on Thursday afternoon.
Twenty eight members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team led a search from Edale, supported by colleagues from the Edale and Kinder teams, and search and rescue dogs.
Following telephone conversations with the couple, they were eventually located safe and well between Edale Rocks and the Kinder Low trig-point and escorted back to Upper Booth.
Roger Bennett, of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, said: “The couple made a sensible decision to call for assistance when they did.
“However, this indicates just how quickly the weather on Kinder Scout can change and walkers should be practiced in navigation to avoid such instances.
“The team also urges everyone to carry a torch and whistle at all times.”
