Men stole from B&Q

Gary Glover and Glynn Ledger were seen by staff at B&Q to be acting suspiciously on February 19, High Peak Magistrates’ Court heard.

The two men were seen to take a number of items from the shelves before taking them to the lighting area of the store where they cut the tags off and placed them in foil-lined bags before leaving without paying.

Glover, 57, of Manor View, Shafton, and Ledger, 44, of Highstone Avenue, admitted taking a blow torch and Maglite torches.

John Wilford, for Glover said: “This was a blip, a blemish. There is no excuse for it.”

James Riley, defending Ledger, said: “He is on a methadone prescription and is getting assistance from counsellors and his GP.”

Glover was given a 12-month community order with 80 hours’ unpaid work, while Ledger received a 12-month order with 120 hours’ unpaid work.

Both must pay £100 costs, a £60 surcharge and £35 compensation to B&Q.

Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the foil-lined bags.
