Meadowhall to get its first ever churros bar

Visitors to Meadowhall will soon be able to pick up a new tasty treat thanks to a new churros bar.

Churros are fried dough pastries popular in Spain, France, Portugal, and parts of the USA.

The sweet treats - which are similar to donuts - are most commonly accompanied by a hot and thick chocolate dipping sauce, or sprinkled with sugar.

The churros bar is being brought to Meadowhall by the team behind Tapas Revolution - a new Spanish bar and restaurant which opens in the Oasis food hall on Wednesday March 16.

It is believed churros were first brought to Europe from China by the Portuguese.

The Portuguese sailed for the Orient and, as they returned from Ming Dynasty China to Portugal, they brought along with them new culinary techniques, including modifying the dough for youtiao, also known as Youzagwei in southern China, for Portugal.

Churros are fried until they become crunchy, and may be sprinkled with sugar.

The surface of a churro is ridged due to having been piped from a churrera, a syringe with a star-shaped nozzle.

Churros are generally prisms in shape, and may be straight, curled or spirally twisted.
