Matlock welcomes new outdoor market

A new weekly outdoor market has been welcomed by members of the public following a successful opening.

The market, featuring 26 stalls selling a range of goods from clothes and plants to gifts and food products, opened in Halls Leys Park, Matlock, on Wednesday, May 28.

The idea for the market was spear–headed by Matlock Town Team, with help from Derbyshire Dales District Council, Derbyshire County Council and Matlock Town Council.

Stallholder Graham Knowles, who has traded in ladies wear for more than 40 years, said “I am sure I can speak for all of the traders in thanking the Matlock market team for a very successful opening of the new market. I myself have had very positive feedback from all of the customers that they were very pleased to see an outside market back in Matlock especially in such an idyllic setting.”

The market is to run every Wednesday from 9am to 4pm throughout the year and there are plans to expand the number of stalls and extend range of products on offer.

Mercury readers gave glowing reviews of the market.
