Man sent back to jail for spitting at police

A man has been sent back to prison almost immediately after his release.

Anthony Bowmer, aged 23, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to assaulting two police officers, using threatening words and behaviour and breaching a restraining order.

The offences took place in Youlgrave after Bowmer was found asleep in a shed at his mother’s address that he was prohibited from attending.

Police officers wearing body cameras attended the scene. They were subjected to verbal abuse from Bowmer, who was staggering and had slurred speech.

They took him into custody where he spat in a police officer’s face.

Bowmer later said he had been drunk and could not remember any of the incident.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison when he appeared at Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
