Man punched neighbour in row over music

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, April 22, how John Spencer, of Dale Road, Matlock, had just got a job and was desperate to get to sleep when the row erupted with neighbour Ryan Williamson.

Angela Hadfield, prosecuting, said: “Spencer and Mr Williamson were friends and Spencer knocked on his door and asked him to turn his music down but Williamson shut the door in his face and refused.

“Spencer went down later and again asked him to turn down the music but when Mr Williamson didn’t open the door Spencer forced his way in and punched him in the face.”

Defence solicitor James Riley said Spencer accepts he lost his temper and punched Williamson on April 4.

Mr Riley went on to explain that his client was desperate for sleep because he had just got a job two days before as a painter and decorator.

He added that as a result of this incident, Spencer had now lost his job and is now back on benefits but recognises he needs to control his temper and he remains friends with Williamson.

Spencer, who pleaded guilty to assault, was fined £37 and ordered to pay £85 costs, a £20 victim surcharge and £50 compensation.
