Man critical and elderly woman seriously hurt after crash last night

A man is fighting for his life and an elderly woman suffered serious injuries after a two-car collision last night.

The man was stood next to his vehicle after seemingly breaking down when a second vehicle, a black Mercedes, collided into the rear of his silver Toyota.

The man is in a critical but stable condition at Queen's Medical Centre.

The elderly woman, who was a passenger in the Mercedes, is in a serious condition with multiple fractures.

The woman's husband - who was driving - was not injured.

It happened on the A38 southbound carriageway at Coxbench.

An investigation is ongoing.
