Man charged with damage after '˜offensive words and symbols' written in Chesterfield park

Police have charged a 56-year-old man with causing damage after '˜offensive words and symbols' were written on the bandstand at Queen's Park.

Mark Chapman, of Bellhouse Lane, Staveley, was charged with two counts of damage, one which allegedly took place on Sunday, April 17, and the other which allegedly happened sometime between Thursday, March 31, and Monday, April 4.

Police said: "A number of offensive words and symbols were written on the walls and floor of the bandstand in the Chesterfield park."

Mr Chapman is due to appear before magistrates on Friday, June 17.
