Long Eaton drug dealer jailed

A man found holding a bucket of cannabis has been jailed and magistrates have seized more than £2,700 from him under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

At a hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrate’s Court on Monday, January 26, a forfeiture order for £2,755 was obtained against Sean Tams.

The act means that anyone who profits from crime can lose the financial and lifestyle gains they have enjoyed.

For example, people who may have earned money by drug dealing or selling stolen property can have this money taken from them.

Money seized is then split between the Treasury and police, Court Services and the Crown Prosecution Service. Amounts confiscated in Derbyshire are often donated to community projects.

The case against Tams began on September 3 when officers visited his home in Friar Street, Long Eaton, on an unrelated matter.

He was found holding a bucket containing what was later found to be cannabis plants.

The 24-year-old was arrested and later charged. At Derby Crown Court on November 28, he was sentenced to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with the intent to supply.
