LETTER: Reader blasts council after snow hell hits Derbyshire

As many have already said, it’s been nothing short of a fiasco from start to finish and yet again, I can’t help but feel that the hilly communities of Coal Aston and Dronfield have had a particularly raw deal.

Having not seen a single gritter for days on end, the cherry on the cake came when the council seemed to ignore its own advice and spread grit during the prolonged period of rainfall which washed the snow (and now countless tons of grit) away!

I will therefore reserve my thanks for the people of Coal Aston and Dronfield, who’ve showed real unity of purpose and quiet determination to get on with their day to day lives, despite having been, I feel, abandoned by those they pay their rates to.

I’ve seen countless examples of residents helping one another out, by clearing pathways and drives, gritting pavements and checking on more vulnerable neighbours.

I feel truly privileged to live in a village with such a strong sense of community spirit.
