LETTER: Lasagne sauce jar is classed as food waste?!

I just read with some amusement the letter in the Derbyshire Times recently regarding battery collection.'¨We ourselves were refused emptying recently and upon reading the leaflet left it was due to food waste. Myself and my husband went through the bin to see what they meant and found nothing except an empty lasagne sauce jar that we hadn't properly rinsed out.

We couldn’t believe that it could be that so rang the number on the leaflet and to our astonishment was told that yes it was the offending article. I cannot believe the council could be so petty about such a trivial thing.

For heaven’s sake when the glass reaches the recycling plant it is crushed then thoroughly washed before it’s recycled.

Before much longer the dust-bin men will be made redundant as the council will make us empty our own bins, thus eliminating the need for them. I wonder if they will give me a rebate for emptying my own dustbin this week? I think not...
