LEA WOOD: Budding archaeologists help unearth wood secrets

Budding young archaeologist have been helping to unearth secrets at an historic woodland.

Pupils from Lea Primary School and Alderwasley Hall School have been digging pits at Lea Wood as part of an investigation into the archaeology, history and ecology of the area near Lea Bridge and Holloway.

The project is continuing with three weeks of excavation at a selection of sites within Lea Wood.

Local volunteers are assisting with the archaeological investigation which is being managed by Bakewell-based Archaeological Research Services Ltd.
