Investigations continue after young Chesterfield woman dies in flat fire

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fire at a flat in Chesterfield which claimed the life of a young woman.

Police were called to a block of flats in Seaton Court on Devonshire Close, Newbold, shortly before 9pm on Saturday.

A 34-year-old woman sadly died at the scene.

She has not yet been publicly named by officials.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We believe the fire was started by a naked flame and our investigations are ongoing.

“We would like to thank those members of the public who have come forward with information to date and ask anyone who is yet to speak to us to get in touch.”

As the Derbyshire Times reported on Monday, Chesterfield residents expressed their shock at the incident and passed on their condolences to the woman’s family.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Derbyshire Constabulary, quoting incident 1164 of September 12.
