Inquest opened after Chesterfield toilet death

An inquest has been opened and adjourned after a man was found dead in the Chesterfield coach station toilets.

John Sheppard, 45, of no fixed abode, was found dead in a toilet cubicle on the afternoon of February 27.

Chesterfield Coroner’s Court heard today (Thurs) that a postmortem examination found high levels of heroin and alcohol in Mr Sheppard’s system.

Mr Sheppard was confirmed dead at Chesterfield Royal Hospital at 4.30pm that day. Mr Sheppard’s sister identified his body.

An inquest into Mr Sheppard’s death was opened and adjourned.

Proceedings are expected to resume within eight weeks.
