Hunt is on for a new Poppy Appeal organiser in Darley

After 11 years walking from door-to-door collecting money for the Poppy Appeal, Darley Dale’s chief organiser is stepping down from the role – meaning the hunt is on for a replacement.

In his time, Bob Lennox, of Darley Dale, and his team have raised a staggering £29,072 for the charity – which provides support to the serving and ex-Service community and their families.

Now in his eighties, Bob is keen to find a “younger set of legs” for the task in plenty of time for this year’s appeal, which is launched in October.

Bob, 80, said: “This role is so important, not only for the charity, but for house-bound elderly people who find it difficult contribute unless somebody calls on them.

“But to get round all these houses you need a younger set of legs than mine. And all the organisation needs a sharper mind!”

Despite the work involved, Bob would encourage people to get involved as it is a “rewarding” way to contribute to such a worthy cause.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to replace Bob call Christine Selden, community fundraiser, on 07973 750816.
