Highfields pupils celebrate A Level results

Minds are firmly on the future for all the Highfields School sixth formers who collected their A Level results this morning (Thursday).

Nervous pupils began arriving at the school gates around 8.30am to see whether they had made the grade for their future.

Student Chloe Chandler, of Ashover, said: “I needed three A’s to get on my ideal course at Newcastle University and was absolutely petrified that I wouldn’t get the result.

“I did, though, so now it’s time to celebrate.”

And it appears that pleased pupils were firmly in the majority for this year’s school leavers.

Highfields sixth formers scooped an overall pass rate of 99.6 per cent and over 55 per cent of the results were in the prestigious A*-B grade category.

Dave Turner, assistant head of sixth form, said: “This was a fantastic group of students to work with. Alongside great academic work they have contributed hugely to the local community.

“We are very proud of their achievements and wish them every success in the future”.

Headteacher Eddie Wilkes added: “With these excellent results the vast majority of students are able to move on to the university and course of their choice in the coming weeks.”

But for today, celebration is top of the list for many students.

Student Alice Spencer, of Tansley, said: “Pretty much everybody’s going out tonight to celebrate. We all definitely deserve it after all the hard work!”

“I think there’s even some champagne at home waiting for me – it’s going to be a good day,” added student Emily Thoday, of Matlock.
