Hasland homes plan '˜violates our human rights'

A group of upset Hasland homeowners are objecting to a planning application which they say would violate their human rights.

The application - from national housebuilder Persimmon Homes - would see 160 homes built on a greenfield site in between Mansfield Road and the A617 bypass.

The plan - which was given outline planning permission after a public inquiry two years ago - must now go before North East Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee for the final go-ahead.

One of the homeowners who say their lives will be badly affected by the plan is Jim Hughes, who lives on Mansfield Road.

He said: “This isn’t about whether the houses will be built, that battle has been lost. This is about how they are going to build them.

“The developers have stuffed the 160 homes into a remarkably small area and have left a large area undeveloped - presumably to return to the site in the future and build yet more houses.

“The findings of the public inquiry said they could build 160 homes but 250 would not have got permission.

“This is a clear breach of the public inquiry findings and clearly a way to abuse the planning system.”

Jim said all the neighbours he has spoken to feel the same way as he does and many were even more upset.

Jim’s submission to the district council criticised the attitude of Persimmon Homes towards householders who live between 171 and 223 Mansfield Road.

He says the homeowners - who will have at least three properties with direct sight into their bedrooms, bathrooms and gardens - will have their human rights violated as result.

In a statement to the Derbyshire Times, Liam Scott, Persimmon Homes director for the North Midlands, said: “The site already has the benefit of an outline planning permission for up to 160 dwellings.

“We have now submitted the detailed proposals for these homes.”

Objectors have two weeks left to lodge objections to North East Derbyshire District Council before the case goes before its planning committee.
