Unconfirmed reports are that the New Bath Hotel, in Matlock Bath, has sold for well under the original £2,500,000 asking price it was given when it was first put up for sale in 2012.

When questioned by a Mercury reporter however, agents Knight Frank would not confirm whether the property, which dates back to the 18th Century, has been sold or not.

Henry Jackson, a partner in the Knight Frank hotels team, said: “There has been a party that has engaged in the purchase of the property.”

Mr Jackson would not confirm the stage at which the purchase of the property was currently at, neither would he confirm the name of the party interested in buying the New Bath Hotel.

He added: “I hope we’ll be able to disclose more information by the end of the month.”

The hotel was closed at short notice in July 2012 and a repossession order placed on it after owners, Albermarle Hotels (No.2) Limited, went into liquidation.

The property comes with five acres of gardens, as well as an outdoor pool.
