Grindleford residents encouraged to be vigilant around door step callers

Residents in Grindleford are being reminded to take extra precautions when being offered items to purchase at their door.

Police were alerted on Wednesday, October 28 to an incident on Padley Hill in Nether Padley where a man was going door to door selling items from his rucksack.

When the homeowner refused to buy, the man became aggressive and started shouting before walking off.

PCSO Anthony Boswell from the village’s Safer Neighbourhood team, said: “Although it is not known at this stage whether the man was trading with the correct documentation, we would like to take this opportunity to offer advice and encourage residents to be vigilant around door step callers.

“This includes asking to see the identity card of the caller, and if they are selling goods, to ask for their pedlar’s certificate. If someone calls at your door unexpectedly, always make sure that you ask for identification and do not feel pressured into buying the goods.”
